Who is GoodWe
GoodWe is a Chinese energy technology company based in Suzhou, near Shanghai. It was founded in 2010, originally focused on grid-tied solar inverters for homes and businesses. In other words, it built its name in inverters long before it entered the battery market.
The company went public in September 2020, listing on the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange under the stock code 688390. By 2026 GoodWe employed around 6,000 people, including more than 1,000 in research and development. Its inverters have shipped to over 100 countries, with a cumulative installed base that GoodWe puts at more than 100 GW.
Analysts at Wood Mackenzie named GoodWe one of the world’s top three hybrid inverter suppliers in 2021, according to the company’s own reporting. It has also received Tier 1 ratings from ratings agencies and a gold sustainability medal from EcoVadis. As a result, GoodWe is best understood as an established inverter manufacturer that later expanded into batteries, rather than a battery start-up that later added inverters.
GoodWe’s wider portfolio spans residential and commercial inverters, EV chargers, heat pumps and energy management software. Its home battery range, sold under the Lynx Home name, is one part of that broader business. However, it is the part most relevant to a homeowner comparing whole-home battery brands.
The GoodWe product range
GoodWe sells its Lynx Home batteries as part of a matched system with its own hybrid inverters. In practice, this means the battery, inverter and app all come from the same manufacturer. The range splits into two voltage classes, each aimed at a different scale of home or system. Specifications and prices below come from GoodWe’s own datasheets and change over time, so always check the current documentation before buying.
Low-voltage batteries: Lynx Home U
The Lynx Home U series is GoodWe’s low-voltage LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery line, built from modules that connect in parallel. The current G3 generation uses a 5 kWh module rated at 51.2 V, and GoodWe states the system can scale up to 30 modules in parallel, or roughly 150 kWh in total. Most residential installs use far fewer modules than that, typically one to six, which covers most single-home backup and self-consumption needs.
Low-voltage Lynx Home U modules pair with GoodWe’s low-voltage hybrid inverters, such as its EH and BH series. These inverters are available in single-phase form for typical household connections. By contrast, larger or three-phase homes usually move to the high-voltage range instead.
High-voltage batteries: Lynx Home F
The Lynx Home F series is GoodWe’s high-voltage LFP battery line, built from smaller modules of around 3.3 kWh each that stack in series inside a tower. Depending on the generation, a tower can run from two modules (around 6.5 kWh usable) up to around nine modules (close to 29 kWh usable). Meanwhile, the nominal voltage rises with each added module, up to roughly 512 V on the largest configurations.
High-voltage Lynx Home F towers pair with GoodWe’s high-voltage hybrid inverters, including its BT and ET series. These inverters are available in both single-phase and three-phase versions, with the three-phase ET models commonly rated from around 5 kW to 10 kW per unit. Installers can therefore size a system from a small single-tower retrofit up to a larger whole-home or light-commercial setup.
Warranty and monitoring
Across both the U and F series, GoodWe offers a 10-year product and performance warranty on its Lynx Home batteries. The company guarantees the battery will retain at least 70% of its usable capacity at the end of that period. GoodWe does not publish one single cycle-count figure for every model, but its warranty terms tie that 10-year cover to a throughput roughly equivalent to one full cycle a day.
Every GoodWe system, battery and inverter alike, reports into the SEMS monitoring app and web portal. Owners can check production, battery state of charge and household consumption from a phone. In addition, installers can use SEMS to diagnose faults and push remote firmware updates, which is useful for keeping a fleet of systems current without a site visit.

Key technology behind GoodWe
GoodWe’s batteries all use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry rather than older nickel-based lithium chemistries. LFP cells are generally more thermally stable and tolerate deeper, more frequent cycling with less degradation. This is now the standard choice across most whole-home battery brands, GoodWe included.
The split between low-voltage and high-voltage ranges is a deliberate engineering choice, not just a naming scheme. Low-voltage systems are simpler to retrofit onto an existing inverter setup, while high-voltage systems move more power per module and suit larger loads. As a result, an installer can match the voltage class to the house rather than forcing one design onto every job.
GoodWe also builds remote management into the hardware itself. Its battery modules can auto-recognise each other when added to a stack, and the whole system can receive a simultaneous firmware upgrade across all modules at once. In short, this reduces the manual configuration an installer needs to do on site, which can lower both installation time and the chance of setup errors.
Strengths and limitations
GoodWe’s main advantage is scale and experience. It has built inverters for well over a decade, so its battery range launched on top of an already mature hybrid-inverter business rather than starting from scratch. That said, it is still a newer name in batteries specifically, so its track record there is shorter than its track record in inverters.
Pros
- Long inverter heritage dating back to 2010
- Two voltage classes cover small retrofits and larger whole-home systems
- Low-voltage range scales up to roughly 150 kWh in parallel
- 10-year product and performance warranty with a 70% capacity guarantee
- LFP chemistry across the whole battery range
- Single app (SEMS) for monitoring both inverter and battery
Cons
- Sold through installers only, with no DIY or direct-to-consumer option
- Batteries are designed to pair with GoodWe's own inverters, not third-party ones
- Shorter track record in batteries than in inverters
- Feature availability, such as time-of-use scheduling, can vary by country and firmware version
- Local installer support quality varies by region, as with most manufacturers
Where GoodWe fits the market
GoodWe suits a household that wants a single manufacturer for both the hybrid inverter and the battery, fitted by a qualified installer. Because the battery and inverter come from the same company, compatibility and support sit in one place rather than being split across two brands. This is a whole-home system, not a plug-in power station, so it always goes in through an installer rather than being something you set up yourself.
The low-voltage Lynx Home U range tends to fit smaller homes or straightforward retrofits onto an existing single-phase supply. By contrast, the high-voltage Lynx Home F range suits larger households, three-phase connections, or homes planning to add more storage later. In some markets, such as Australia and parts of Europe, GoodWe has an established installer base, which in practice means better local parts and service availability than in markets where the brand is newer.

Common questions about GoodWe
What battery chemistry does GoodWe use?
GoodWe uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells across its entire Lynx Home range. LFP is generally more thermally stable than older lithium chemistries. As a result, it is now the standard choice across most whole-home battery brands, not just GoodWe.
How much storage can a GoodWe battery system provide?
It depends on the voltage class. The low-voltage Lynx Home U G3 range can scale up to around 150 kWh across 30 parallel modules, though most homes use far less. The high-voltage Lynx Home F range typically runs from around 6.5 kWh up to around 29 kWh per tower, with room to add further towers.
Can a GoodWe battery work with another brand's inverter?
GoodWe's Lynx Home batteries are designed to pair with GoodWe's own hybrid inverters, such as its EH, BH, BT and ET series. In other words, this is a closed, matched system rather than an open one. If you already own an inverter from another brand, check compatibility with your installer before assuming a GoodWe battery will work with it.
What warranty does GoodWe offer on its batteries?
GoodWe backs its Lynx Home batteries with a 10-year product and performance warranty. The company guarantees at least 70% of usable capacity remains at the end of that period. That said, exact terms can vary slightly by region, so it's worth checking the warranty document for your market.
Can I install a GoodWe battery myself?
No. GoodWe's home battery systems are sold and fitted through accredited solar installers, not as a direct-to-consumer or DIY product. This is typical for whole-home hybrid-inverter-and-battery systems, since they involve mains wiring rather than a simple plug-in setup.
Is GoodWe a reliable, established manufacturer?
GoodWe was founded in 2010 and has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market since 2020. It built its reputation in solar inverters before expanding into batteries, and by 2026 its inverters had shipped to more than 100 countries. In short, it is a long-established manufacturer rather than a recent market entrant, even though its battery range is newer than its inverter business.
