GivEnergy ceased trading in April 2026

GivEnergy Ltd stopped trading and entered administration on 9 April 2026, making its UK staff redundant. This followed a £6.5 million operating loss the company reported for 2024. Systems already installed keep working, and the GivEnergy app still runs. A separate group company operates the app, and that company was not part of the administration. However, GivEnergy's administrators have confirmed that GivEnergy will no longer honour hardware warranties, supply spare parts or provide technical support. We have updated this page throughout to reflect that. See the FAQs below for what it means if you already own a GivEnergy system.

At a glance
  • UK energy storage brand founded in 2016 and incorporated as GivEnergy Ltd in September 2018, headquartered in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, with its own battery manufacturing facility nearby that opened in 2024
  • At its height the range spanned standalone LiFePO4 batteries from around 2.6 kWh up to 9.5 kWh per unit, plus the All In One (AIO), a combined battery, inverter and gateway unit built around a 13.5 kWh battery
  • Current Gen 3 batteries and the AIO carried a 12-year manufacturer's warranty when fitted by an approved installer, but GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration on 9 April 2026, and its administrators have said this warranty will no longer be honoured
  • Already-installed systems keep working and still support time-of-use tariffs such as Octopus Agile, since the GivEnergy app and portal are run by a separate group company unaffected by the administration, though spare parts and technical support are no longer guaranteed

Who is GivEnergy

GivEnergy was founded in 2016 in Staffordshire and launched its first hybrid inverter the following year. The trading entity most people mean by “GivEnergy” is GivEnergy Ltd. This company was formally incorporated at Companies House in September 2018, alongside the launch of its first UK battery system. It was headquartered at Osprey House in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. In 2024 it opened its own battery manufacturing facility nearby, alongside plans for a wider clean-tech business hub in the same area.

At its peak, GivEnergy was one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of battery storage systems. It reported UK revenue of £50.3 million for 2024. Its UK managing director also said, in 2024, that the company held around 35% of the UK home battery market. GivEnergy had also expanded internationally, with operations in Singapore, Australia and South Africa. Its Australian business entered administration alongside the UK one. The company sold through a nationwide network of trained, GivEnergy-approved installers rather than direct to consumers. As a result, it was a familiar name among UK solar and battery fitters rather than a direct-to-homeowner brand.

On 9 April 2026, GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration, making its UK staff redundant. The company’s own 2024 annual report blamed poor leadership for the loss that preceded the collapse. It also pointed to a slow response to aggressive price cuts from overseas competitors.

A separate group company, GivEnergy Software Ltd, runs the GivEnergy app and cloud portal. This company was not placed into administration, so previously installed systems keep working and reporting data. However, the administrators have stated that GivEnergy will no longer provide hardware warranty cover, spare parts or technical support going forward.

The GivEnergy product range

GivEnergy’s core UK range covered standalone Giv-Bat batteries, from a 2.6 kWh unit up to a 9.5 kWh unit. These were designed to pair with a separate hybrid inverter and could be stacked for extra capacity. Sitting alongside these was the All In One (AIO), which combined a 13.5 kWh LiFePO4 battery, an inverter and GivEnergy’s “Giv-Gateway” switching hardware in a single unit. It was sold in versions with different nominal AC output ratings, depending on the model and grid connection type.

GivEnergy also sold hybrid inverters on their own, in single-phase and three-phase versions from around 3.6 kW up to 11 kW. It additionally offered a 7 kW EV charger and smart accessories such as a PV rapid-disconnect switch and a smart plug. All of these were managed through the same GivEnergy app and installer portal.

Following GivEnergy Ltd’s administration in April 2026, some installers and wholesalers still hold stock of these products. However, GivEnergy itself is no longer manufacturing, selling or supporting them.

Key technology behind GivEnergy batteries

Across the range, GivEnergy uses LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) cells. This is a cobalt-free chemistry that the company markets as safer and longer-lasting than older lithium-ion types.

On the All In One, GivEnergy’s own Giv-Gateway hardware handles automatic switchover between grid and battery power. The company states this happens in around 20 milliseconds, which helps the system ride through short outages. The GivEnergy app and online portal monitor every system, and this also gives approved installers remote access for commissioning and support.

GivEnergy publishes a cloud API with a direct link to Octopus Energy’s live pricing, naming the Agile tariff specifically. As a result, a GivEnergy battery can charge automatically when electricity is cheap or green, and discharge when it is expensive, without manual scheduling. Independent developers have also used the same API to build integrations with smart home platforms such as Home Assistant, though these are community-built tools rather than an official GivEnergy product.

Strengths and limitations

As with any brand, GivEnergy’s own marketing understandably leads with its strengths. Here is a more balanced picture.

Strengths

  • UK-designed and UK-manufactured, with in-house R&D and what was one of the largest networks of trained, approved installers in the country
  • LiFePO4 battery chemistry throughout the range, with Gen 3 batteries and the All In One rated at 100% depth of discharge in GivEnergy's own datasheets
  • Broad single-brand product range, from small standalone batteries to the combined All In One unit, hybrid inverters and an EV charger, so installers could often spec one ecosystem
  • Direct integration with time-of-use tariffs such as Octopus Agile, letting the battery charge and discharge automatically around cheap or green electricity periods, which still works for already-installed systems

Worth checking before you buy

  • GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration on 9 April 2026, and its administrators have confirmed the company will no longer honour hardware warranties, supply spare parts or provide technical support, regardless of which installer fitted the system
  • GivEnergy never published a numeric cycle-life figure for its batteries; its own datasheets and warranty terms described cycle life as "unlimited cycles" over a 12-year warranty rather than a cycle count. Depth of discharge was 100% on current-generation Gen 3 batteries and the AIO, but older Gen 1 and Gen 2 models were tested to 80% DoD instead
  • Only GivEnergy-trained and approved installers could fit the battery range with the full 12-year warranty intact while the company was trading; GivEnergy stated that using an unapproved installer could cut the warranty to as little as 12 months, though that warranty is now void in any case
  • As with most whole-house systems, pricing was set by individual installers rather than a fixed retail list, so quotes varied and were not directly comparable; this is now moot for new buyers, since GivEnergy itself is no longer selling systems

Where GivEnergy fits the market

Before its collapse, GivEnergy sat firmly in the whole-house, professionally installed segment of the market globally, alongside brands such as Sunsynk, Alpha ESS and Fox ESS. This put it apart from the plug-in, DIY-friendly systems covered elsewhere on this site. Within that segment, its UK manufacturing base, large UK installer network and generally lower price point than premium brands like Tesla Powerwall were often cited as its main draw in its core market.

GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration in April 2026, so it is no longer taking new orders. Anyone comparing whole-house systems now should look at one of its still-trading peers instead. Existing GivEnergy owners should speak to their original installer about ongoing support.

Common questions about GivEnergy

What does GivEnergy make?

GivEnergy made home battery storage, including standalone Giv-Bat batteries, the combined All In One battery and inverter unit, hybrid inverters, an EV charger and smart accessories. All of this was monitored through its own app and installer portal, until GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration in April 2026.

Is GivEnergy a UK company?

It was. GivEnergy was founded in 2016 and the current trading entity, GivEnergy Ltd, was incorporated in September 2018. It was headquartered in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, with a battery manufacturing facility nearby that opened in 2024. GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration on 9 April 2026, making its UK staff redundant.

What is the GivEnergy All In One (AIO)?

The All In One was GivEnergy's combined unit, housing a 13.5 kWh LiFePO4 battery, an inverter and GivEnergy's Giv-Gateway switching hardware together. This meant installers did not need to fit a separate battery and inverter side by side. It carried a 100% depth of discharge and a 12-year warranty while GivEnergy was trading.

Can I install a GivEnergy battery myself?

No. GivEnergy's battery systems were designed to be fitted by qualified electricians who had completed GivEnergy's approved installer training. Fitting one outside that network could significantly reduce the warranty. Since GivEnergy Ltd entered administration in April 2026, its administrators have said the company will not honour that warranty at all going forward. This remains a job for a qualified electrician, but no longer one with GivEnergy's own backing.

Does GivEnergy work with Octopus Agile and other smart tariffs?

Yes, for systems already installed. GivEnergy's systems have a direct API link to Octopus Energy's live pricing, including the Agile tariff by name. The battery's smart charging also works with other time-of-use tariffs. This runs through GivEnergy Software Ltd, the separate group company that operates the app and portal. That company was not part of the administration, so the link keeps working even though GivEnergy Ltd itself has ceased trading.

How much does a GivEnergy system cost, and can I still buy one?

GivEnergy never published a fixed UK retail price list. Individual approved installers quoted batteries, inverters and installation instead, and prices varied with capacity and property. GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading and entered administration in April 2026, so new GivEnergy systems are no longer being sold. However, some installers and wholesalers may still hold existing stock.
